In our research area, we deal with monetary and macroeconomic topics. Thereby, we focus on the understanding of the individual behavior: How do macroeconomic developments influence individual behavior and how does the interaction of individual behaviour in total affect macroeconomic variables. Our guiding principle is to describe seemingly complex relationships in a simple, intuitive and striking way.

We address issues in monetary theory and policy. We are interested in the role of monetary policy uncertainty and inflation risk, cryptocurrency and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). However, we also consider issues of fiscal federalism in the context of currency unions, international risk sharing and financial markets, and the interaction between monetary and fiscal policy. A topic that may seem exotic is our interdisciplinary phosphorus project, which on closer inspection, though, directly integrates into our research agenda and has a very close connection to our agricultural tradition at Hohenheim University.
